The bSecure VPN service is a collaboration between Network Operations and the Information Security Office. It has increased monitoring, and utilizes many of the advanced security features of the Palo Alto Networks firewalls. Restricted Tunnel is a service that is limited to people that access sensitive systems and data.This is most commonly used if you are accessing a resource that is licensed for UC Berkeley, such as journals licensed through the library only for campus users. All client traffic is routed through the campus network with an IP address associated with the campus. Full Tunnel (listed as “Library Access and Full Tunnel”) directs all traffic, regardless of the destination, through the GlobalProtect client and VPN tunnel.However, traffic meant for other sites like Google will not use the VPN tunnel. When using the split tunnel option, any traffic meant for destinations on campus will go through the GlobalProtect client and VPN tunnel. What is the expiration time of a VPN session?.How to set up a VPN connection on my computer, mobile phone or tablet?.After providing a valid username/password combination, an approval message will immediately appear in the Authenticator app. Each time you log on to your VPN, you will have to use the Microsoft Authenticator app. Please note that VPN (GlobalProtect) does not show a notification or pop-up indicating that you need to approve the login. It has been ensured from IT that these updates do occur at home when employees turn on their VPN connection. What to use VPN for?īecause of working from home, no automatic updates are performed on the university's computers. This way automatic updates are performed, you can access your documents on the O: drive and we can detect threats (such as phishing e-mails) from within the university. We recommend that you always activate it. The VPN connection we use within the university is called 'GlobalProtect'.
